ABOUT
Gary F. Miret was born in New York City and raised in Queens County. His parents,Emilio Miret and Shirley Cordoba-Miret, immigrated from Cuba in 1960 fleeing theCommunist government of Fidel Casto to provide their children with freedom and democracy.

Background

Acting Justice Gary F. Miret has been serving the Queens County community for 39
years with his diverse experience as a former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney,
having tried over 50 criminal cases.
Acting Justice of the State of New York, Queens County, Criminal Term for over 4 years.
Nominated to the New York State Court of Claims in 2021 and assigned to Supreme
Court, Criminal Term in Queens County.
A former Assistant District Attorney in Queens County, he was assigned in his ten years
of service to the people of Queens County to the following Bureaus: Homicide
Investigations, Supreme Court Trials, Special Victims, Criminal Court, Narcotics
Investigations, Racket & Economic Crimes and Appeals.
Founding member of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County having served
as a former Vice President and Treasurer for 17 years.
Early Career
In 1983, Gary graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Business Management from St. John’s University. He proceeded to attend St. John’s
University School of Law and graduated in 1986.
While attending law school he worked
as a law clerk for Jose Bethancourt, Esq., Speiser and Krause, P.C. and the Honorable
Mark A. Costantino, United States District Court, Eastern District of New York. Upon
graduating from St. John’s University School of Law, Gary continued to serve the people of Queens County by accepting a position as an Assistant District Attorney, where he proudly served his county for ten years.
In 1996, Gary continued his service to the
Queens community by opening his own law practice in Astoria, Queens where he
concentrated in the areas of Criminal Defense, Real Estate, Business Closings and
Wills.
Work History
In 2021, Gary was appointed by the Governor of the State of New York to the
New York State Court of Claims and was assigned to the Queens Supreme Court,
Criminal Term where his is currently assigned to the Felony Driving While Intoxicated
Part. In addition to his legal commitment to the residents of Queens County, Gary has
been serving his community doing volunteer work. He was a volunteer coach at his
alma mater, Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School for ten years as a Freshman
Basketball Coach and seventeen years as a Varsity Baseball Coach.
He continues to serve his alma mater, by serving as a member of the Board of Governors for over
twenty-five years. He is a member and past Grand Knight of the Colon-Msgr. Higgins
Council of the Knights of Columbus and has served as a judge in numerous mock trial
competitions for the Queens District Attorney’s Office, St. John’s University School of
Law and Young Debaters High School Competition.
In addition to his volunteer work, Gary is a founding member of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County. He is a member of the Queens County Bar Association where he served as a member of the
Board of Managers and is a past Dean of the Academy of Law. He is also a member of
the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Queens County, where he currently serves as Second
Vice President. In addition, Gary is also a member of the Latino Judges Association, the
Columbian Lawyers Association, the South Asian Indo Caribbean Bar Association and
the Latino Court Officers Society.
Community
Gary’s service to the community has been recognized through the numerousawards he has received from various organizations in Queens County. In recognitionfor his commitment to the community, he received in 2025 the Academy of LawExcellence Award from the Queens County Bar Association, in 2024 the CatholicLawyer of the Year from the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Queens County, in 2022 theLifetime Achievement Award from the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County, in2020 he received the Attorney Award from the South Asian Indo Caribbean BarAssociation, in 2019 he received the El Quijote Award from the Committee for the NewYork City Hispanic Day Parade and in 2013 the Latino Lawyer of the Year Award fromthe Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County, He has served as a Guest of Honorat the Columbian Day and Ecuadorian Day Parades and at the Bangladeshi LawSociety.
Gary has also been a guest speaker on the Luis Jiminez and InternationalGrapevine shows discussing Latino’s in the Judiciary in Queens County.Gary is the proud son of Shirley Miret and has been married for the past thirty-one years to Norma Garcia Miret who is a Support Magistrate in the New York CityFamily Court. He is also the proud father of two sons, Emilio who is a Medical Doctor inhis first year of residency and Mateo who is in his first year of law school.Gary is now on the ballot for the 2025 General Election on November 4 for theNew York State Supreme Court, Queens County.
